How much does skip hire cost in Teesside?
£90 to £130 for a 2 to 3 yard mini, £120 to £160 for a 4 yard midi, £160 to £240 for a 6 to 8 yard builders skip and £260 to £350 for a 12 yard. Wait and load starts at £120.
Is the quote really free?
Yes. The job gets priced properly, the figure comes back in writing, and you decide in your own time. No charge and no pressure.
What does the price include?
Delivery, the standard hire period, collection, tipping and the waste transfer note. Permits, extended hire and separately handled items are shown as their own lines.
How long can I keep the skip?
One to two weeks as standard, extendable at a stated weekly rate. If the skip is on the road, the council permit has its own expiry and needs extending separately.
Permits & placement
Do I need a permit for a skip?
Only if any part of it stands on a public road, pavement or verge. On a private driveway you do not. Permits across the four Teesside councils run roughly £30 to £60.
How long does a permit take?
Three to five working days in normal conditions. If the job cannot wait, wait and load needs no licence because nothing stands on the highway unattended.
How much space does a skip need?
About 2.5 metres for a mini, 3 to 3.5 for a 4 yard, 4 to 5 for a builders skip and six or more for a 12 yard, with clear overhead access for the lorry arms.
Will a skip damage my driveway?
Not with boards under the feet, which spread the weight. On block paved and resin drives ask for them when you book rather than on delivery day.
What goes in
What cannot go in a skip?
Fridges and freezers, tyres, asbestos, paint and liquids, solvents, gas bottles, batteries, electrical items and clinical waste. Those need separate, licensed disposal.
Can I put a mattress in a skip?
Usually yes, at a separate charge, because mattresses are handled and disposed of on their own at the transfer station. Say how many when you ask for a price.
What about plasterboard?
It cannot be mixed with general waste under current disposal rules. Keep it in its own pile and mention it, and it is either collected separately or given its own container.
Why can I not fill it above the rim?
A heaped skip cannot be legally sheeted and lifted, so the driver will refuse it. Level loading is a road safety rule rather than a preference.

Which size skip do I need?
A mini for one small room or a heavy rubble load, a 4 yard for a garden or a single refit, a builders skip for a renovation or house clearance, and a 12 yard for bulky light waste only.
Can I put soil and concrete in a large skip?
No. Dense material takes the lorry over its legal weight limit, so heavy inert waste goes in a smaller skip, often filled to a marked line.
What is wait and load?
The lorry stays on site while you fill the skip, then leaves with the waste inside the hour. No permit is needed, which makes it the answer on streets with nowhere to put a skip.
Can I have a full skip swapped mid-job?
Yes. An exchange takes the full container away and leaves an empty one on the same visit, charged per swap, which is cheaper than starting a new booking.
